SUMMARY:Nonprofits LEAD: Conflict Resolution
DESCRIPTION:Do you love conflict? For most of us\, the answer to that question is “absolutely not!” However\, whenever you work with people\, conflict is going to be a part of your professional life. Each of us has the power to reduce our anxiety about conflict and actively engage it as a force for personal\, professional\, and organizational growth. This introductory level workshop will give participants theory\, skills\, and strategies to understand conflict better and manage it more effectively. \nParticipants will learn about: principled negotiation\, family systems theory\, the various conflict management styles and how to decide which to use in a given situation\, and how to decide when to employ mediation or other external resources. Participants will also engage in hands-on activities to build skills such as active listening\, re-framing\, and facilitation that can be applied to conflicts in various situations and settings. Participants will leave the workshop with a better understanding of their own conflict management styles and skills that can improve their effectiveness in supervision of staff and volunteers\, collaboration with colleagues\, work with or on a board\, and even in your personal relationships. \nCost: $25 Refreshments will be provided. Scholarship funding can be requested. \nIntended Audience: Executive directors; staff members; board members; volunteers; interns \nMaribeth Saleem-Tanner holds an MA in conflict transformation with a concentration in peacebuilding and development from the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg\, Virginia. Her research at EMU focused on understanding differing perspectives on community development in Pocahontas County\, West Virginia\, where she lived and worked for over ten years at High Rocks\, an award-winning youth leadership development program. She also worked with nonprofits throughout the Allegheny Mountain and taught English and Management courses through New River Community College. Saleem-Tanner currently oversees the Office of Civic Engagement and teaches courses within the action component in the McDonough Leadership Program. \nDownload Workshop Description \nRegister Online \n

SUMMARY:WVNPA Webinar - Government Grants and Contracts: Getting Reimbursement for Your Nonprofit's Indirect Costs
DESCRIPTION:The new reforms make clear that a nonprofit’s indirect costs are legitimate expenses that need to be reimbursed and that nonprofit organizations receive at least partial reimbursement of their indirect costs from states\, local governments\, and other pass-through entities for services they perform under federal awards.\nNew federal rules aren’t just for nonprofits with federal grants. Whether your nonprofit receives funds directly from a federal agency or federal funds are mixed into your state and local contracts and grants (which you may not even be aware of)\, the new rules from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) went into affect at the end of December and apply to you.  Most notably\, the OMB Uniform Guidance  makes clear that state and local governments are required to reimburse you at least a portion of your nonprofit’s indirect costs (sometimes called overhead or administrative costs) when federal funds are involved. But\, this is not the only change nonprofits need to be aware of to ensure governments pay their fair share of the costs. To maintain good standing\, nonprofits must also be aware of and comply with other changes as well. \nJoin us for a one-hour webinar where you’ll learn: \n\nWhat the major changes in the OMB Uniform Guidance are that will affect your organization;\nWhat your organization needs to do to take advantage of and comply with the new rules;\nWhat you can do to ensure state and local governments implement the changes as OMB intended.\n\nThis webinar will be presented by David Thompson\, Vice President of Public Policy\, and Beth Bowsky\, Policy Specialist – Government-Nonprofit Contracting\, both at the National Council of Nonprofits. For more information about the changes\, visit: \nhttp://www.councilofnonprofits.org/public-policy/omb-guidance-indirect-costs. \nBring your questions– Beth and David will be happy to address them. \n\n\n\n\nOnline Ticketing for Government Grants and Contracts: Getting Reimbursement for Your Nonprofit’s Indirect Costs powered by Eventbrite\n\nOr\, if you prefer\, you can print and mail your registration:\nMail-in registration form
