A nonprofit’s board of directors is the organization’s steward and is responsible for developing and maintaining public trust by ensuring effective movement toward the organization’s mission.
To be effective, the role of the board members needs to be clearly defined and focus on providing overall leadership and strategic direction to the organization. Nonprofit boards set policy, ensure that the organization has adequate resources to carry out its mission, and provides oversight and direction for the Executive Director.
