Keynote Address: Building Competencies for Sustainability with Steve Zimmerman, Spectrum Nonprofit Services

In the ever-changing environment in which nonprofits operate today, leaders often seem to be searching for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow known as “sustainability.”  But sustainability lies not at some far-off destination, it occurs when organizations make ongoing strategic decisions to guide toward exceptional impact and financial viability.  Pursuing sustainability is not a one-time thing, not a senior management thing nor a board of directors thing.  It’s a mindset and way of organization being.  Based on the best-selling book, Nonprofit Sustainability: Making Strategic Decisions for Financial Viability, Steve Zimmerman, CPA, will review key competencies involved in leading nonprofits sustainably and introduce attendees to the matrix map, a visual representation of an organization’s business model. Participants will leave with a framework for sustainability and an understanding of their organization in a new way along with the information necessary to lead a discussion on how to increase their organization’s sustainability.
