Keynote Address: Building Competencies for Sustainability with Steve Zimmerman, Spectrum Nonprofit Services

In the ever-changing environment in which nonprofits operate today, leaders often seem to be searching for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow known as “sustainability.”  But sustainability lies not at some far-off destination, it occurs when organizations make ongoing strategic decisions to guide toward exceptional impact and financial viability.  Pursuing sustainability is not a one-time thing, not a senior management thing nor a board of directors thing.  It’s a mindset and way of organization being.  Based on the best-selling book, Nonprofit Sustainability: Making Strategic Decisions for Financial Viability, Steve Zimmerman, CPA, will review key competencies involved in leading nonprofits sustainably and introduce attendees to the matrix map, a visual representation of an organization’s business model. Participants will leave with a framework for sustainability and an understanding of their organization in a new way along with the information necessary to lead a discussion on how to increase their organization’s sustainability. Closing Keynote: Becky Mathis-Stump, Ethos Leadership Group

Rebekah D. Mathis-Stump is Chief Operating Officer at Ethos Leadership Group, LLC in Parkersburg, WV. An analyst and solution-generator by nature, Becky works with clients to identify their needs and develop a plan of action to reach their desired results. Having worked in numerous disciplines in her career, Becky is a generalist who brings a broad range of knowledge and experience to her clients. Becky particularly enjoys working with clients on organizational audits, strategic planning, employee training, and governance. She is a former assistant to the president and legal counsel at Ohio Valley University. Becky has been honored by Ohio Valley University as Young Alumnus of the Year and earned a life membership in The Order of the Barristers—a national honor society recognizing excellence in oral advocacy. Becky is an administrative law judge for the City of Parkersburg, WV, and a member of the West Virginia State Bar.
